Privacy
Draft. This describes how the apps work today. It still needs a legal review before the apps are in the stores.
The Usual is run by Joshua Fry as trustee for the Fry Family Trust (ABN 59 912 904 698), on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. This policy covers the customer app, the vendor app and this website. We handle personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address and the first name you give us, so vans know whose order is whose.
- Your orders: what you ordered, from which van and stop, and when. We use this to show your orders and to work out your usual.
- Your stops: the van stops and days you follow, so we know when to ask “The usual?”.
- Notifications: a push token for your phone, so we can send order and “on the way” notifications.
- Location, only if you allow it: only while you’re using the app, never in the background. Your phone rounds it to about 500 metres before sending it, and we use it to show vans open near you. We keep only your latest point, for no more than 24 hours.
Card payments
We never see or store your card number. Cards are entered into Square’s secure form and saved with the van’s own Square account. Payments go to the van, and Square handles them under Square’s privacy policy.
Who sees your information
- The van you order from sees your first name, your order and any note you add. It doesn’t see your email address.
- Our service providers store and send data for us: Supabase (database, in Sydney), Square (payments), Expo and Apple or Google (push notifications), and Resend (sign-in emails).
- We don’t sell your information or use it for advertising.
Vendors
For vendors, we also hold your business name, menu, stops and the connection to your Square account. Square access tokens are stored securely on our server and are never sent to the app.
Deleting your information
Email hello@theusualapp.com.au from the address you signed in with, and we’ll delete your account. A van’s own sales records in Square stay with the van.
